The Awhitu Environmental Camp was built in 1978 and was managed by Waiuku College Board of Trustees for 34 years.
The lease was obtained by the High Wire Charitable Trust (HWCT) in mid 2012, with the goal of becoming an Adventure Life skills camp for the spiritual, emotional, social and physical development of youth and every day New Zealanders, through the means of challenging, enjoyable and safe outdoor education that is second to none.
What’s in the surrounding area?
The camp has access to fields, walking tracks, beaches, swamps, a small lake, pristine regional park land and a marine reserve. The facilities and activities are designed to ensure that whether a group wants to spend a day or a week (discovering the adventures that can be found in the Manukau Heads), an extraordinary experience from a visit to the Awhitu Environmental Camp can be had by all.
How many can the camp accomodate?
The camp is well suited to small, medium and large groups with the capability to comfortably accommodate 82 people.
What facilities are available?
The camp was renovated over the period of 2012-2013 and is equipped with a commercial type kitchen, dinning room, classroom, large bathroom facilities and a laundry area.
